Especially in Canada...

Wow it's already TIFF time. I shot a short film recently called "II" written by Ashleigh Rains, but it didn't make the festival. However, that's not stopping me to attend some important events such as the discussion panel on social issues in Film. That was a heated discussion, talking about black people in movies and Hollywood. This is a tough industry to be in. It's very competitive and fickle. Why I became an actor, I don't know. Ha-ha well I do, but I question it sometimes.

I had several auditions since the last time I wrote a post. One which was for the role of a recurring character in the TV show called "Kings." Marsha, the casting director first had me go to her house to pre-screen. I had never done this before, but I thought it was cool. I received the sides at 5 and was at her place by 7. She wanted to see me before hand, you know, see if I could really act. She saw how much musical theatre experience I had and that concerned her. Why is it that if you have trained in theatre, people assume you can't act for film, yet theatre actors are deemed more skilled? Some of the best film actors in this world came from theatre. I dunno...sucks to be pigeon holed though. Anyway, I won her over and scored myself an audition for the producers and director.

I also booked an acting role on the TV show "Lost Girl," which airs on Showcase. I play a stripper. Yep the roles are meaty over here. Don't tell my mom though...oh wait she already knows and reads my blogs. Oh well, work is work, especially in Canada!
